Dublin Fire Brigade said via Twitter that there are eight units at the scene of the scrap metal recycling centre at Sandyhills, St Margaret's including an aerial ladder and foam unit.

Images posted by DFB show a large plumes of smoke rising over the plant and the AA has warned motorists that visibility might be affected.

DFB has advised people living in the area to close their windows to prevent smoke blowing into their homes and also urged people, particularly anyone with breathing issues, to avoid the area.
