The most severe winds occurred in parts of Connacht and Ulster.
Winds were of average speeds of 65 to 95 kilometers an hour, with gusts of 110 to 120 kilometers an hour reported in parts of Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal.
Met Éireann said this morning that severe winds are likely to continue to affect northern and northwestern counties over the next few hours but will abate during the morning.
Winds will not be as severe elsewhere but will still be very strong and gusty in some parts.
