Ikea’s sales in Ireland in the financial year to the end of August rose by 10 per cent to more than €167 million, according to figures released on Friday morning by the Swedish home furnishings giant.
The retailer said footfall at its Irish stores, which include its Ballymun flagship off the M50 motorway in north Dublin, rose by a third to 4 million visits. About 10 per cent of those visits were to its newly-opened, but smaller, click and collect store in Carrickmines.
The company is believed to be scouting locations for another major Irish store, possibly in Cork.
Ikea says sales in Ireland of bedroom furniture, its fastest growing segment, rose by 14 per cent over the year. Sales in Dublin of its home decorations and lighting products were also among the top ranked globally in the group, which has 357 stores worldwide.
Job numbers at the Irish operation rose over the year by 42 to 705.
“Our commitment to improving accessibility continues to be a key focus for Ikea in Ireland,” said Claudia Marshall, country manager for Ireland.
“This was further bolstered by the recent launch of our shop online channel making Ikea available at the click of a button. We are looking forward to seeing this digital part of our business grow over the coming years.”
