The number of permanent staff grew by 300 to 3,500 over the past twelve months, with the balance of the increase coming from contract staff.
The last time the company revealed how many people it employed here was in June 2016, when it said it had 6,000 Irish based workers.
To house the extra employees, the company also announced today that it has taken a lease out on the Valesco Building on Dublin's Grand Canal.
The six storey building is located close to the internet giant's existing Europe Middle East and Africa headquarters complex on Barrow Street.
The new block will provide a further 51,000 sq ft of space and will be ready to occupy in 2018 once fit out is complete.
The firm also announced that Vice-President Gareth Morgan has been appointed to lead Google's emerging cloud business operations in Dublin.
Welcoming the news, Fionnuala Meehan, Vice President of Google and head of Google in Ireland, said the appointment would help to ensure that Dublin is considered for future cloud operations.
She said the additional investments would also help to ensure Google in Ireland stays "ahead of the curve" in helping its customers, users and advertisers to continue to benefit from its products and services.
