Carman’s Hall in The Liberties was due to provide 65 beds for rough sleepers as part of this year's Winter Initiative.
But a local residents group - The Carman's Hall Community Interest Group - took High Court action and the opening of the hostel has been suspended pending hearing of the case, which begins on 24 January.
Local residents have been angry about the original closure of the community centre and held a number of protests following news that it was to be used instead for homeless services.
They say the area already has the highest concentration of homeless and drug treatment services in the city.
The Dublin Region Homeless Executive will go ahead with the opening of 70 bed hostel on Ellis Quay and a 75 bed facility on Little Britain St, both in the northwest of the city in Dublin 7, this Friday.
